Michael J. Smith, PE
Michael J. Smith PE (Principal) received his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Kentucky, a Masters in Business Administration from Alabama A&M University, and a Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Louisville. Mike is a registered Professional Engineer in several states including Kentucky, Missouri, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, South Dakota, and Tennessee.
Mike has extensive experience in structural, civil, and mechanical design of industrial and commercial facilities, structures, buildings and pipe racks. These designs include medium rise frames, high hazard blast resistant structures, and sanitary (clean) facilities along with containment lagoons and ground water protection systems. He has completed numerous structural designs of steel and concrete park bridges, observation platforms and concrete box culverts. He also completed structural inspections of steel, concrete, and timber structures for repairs or expansion. Mike’s extensive knowledge in developing innovative, cost effective designs, construction techniques, and attention to detail consistently helps BTM’s clients achieve their project goals.
Gregory W. Bennett, LA
Site Development Dept
Gregg Bennett LA (Principal) attended Eastern Kentucky University majoring in Ornamental Horticulture. In addition he received an Associates of Applied Science Degree in Architectural Design from Louisville Technical Institute in 1988. Gregg became a Registered Landscape Architect in 1994.
Gregg has extensive experience and detailed knowledge in Site Planning, Site Design/Development and Landscape Architectural practices in multiple areas of Site Development.
He is experienced in Public/People-related projects in the Design of Retail/Commercial Sites, Shopping Centers, Educational and Financial Facilities, Recreational Parks, Athletic Facilities and Golf Courses. He also has experience in designing Pedestrian Plazas and Amusement/Water Parks, Single & Multi-Family Residential, and Correctional Institutional Facilities.
Gregg has project experience at Local, State and Federal levels. Site Design experience includes Planning/Zoning Presentations and issues, project layout with emphasis on Site Disturbance, Drainage and Drainage Patterns, Vehicular and Pedestrian Circulation and Utility Coordination.
J. Craig Mount, PE
, Transportation, Survey Mgr.
Craig Mount PE, PLS (Principal) graduated from the University of Louisville with an Associate in Applied Science with Specialization in Field of Civil Engineering Technology in 1974. He obtained his Professional Engineer license in Kentucky in 1983 and Professional Land Surveying license in Kentucky in 1979.
Craig has extensive experience in the design of urban and rural roadways, bridges, culverts, sanitary sewer systems, drainage, site development projects and hydraulic analysis for bridges and storm sewers. He has experience conducting location studies, travel time studies and traffic analysis. Craig also has experience conducting and supervising boundary, topographic and ALTA/ACSM surveys, construction staking and surveys for the design of highways, airports, bridge replacements, railroads, storm and sanitary sewers, subdivision and site development projects.
Christopher Brown, AICP
Chris Brown, AICP (Principal) received his education from the University of Louisville with a Master’s in Urban Planning as well as a Master’s in Public Administration. Chris has more than 10 years of professional experience in the field of land use planning both in the public and private sector. His public sector experience covered a wide range of land use and community planning related issues that ranged from public policy and land use review to transportation, economic development and historic preservation. Chris has worked within the planning departments of the Transit Authority of the River City (TARC), the City of Frankfort Planning and Building Codes and Louisville Metro Planning and Design Services. Since joining BTM Engineering Inc. in 2016, he has become a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners and worked as the Planning Director and project manager for key developments throughout Louisville.
James Birch, PE
Jim Birch PE (Principal) graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 1965 and became a Professional Engineer in Kentucky in 1969. Jim has experience in both the private and public sectors. He served as Secretary of the Public Works and Transportation Cabinet, Jefferson County Engineer, Assistant Director of the Department of Traffic Engineering for the City of Louisville and design team leader for the Kentucky Department of Highways.
Jim was responsible for planning, design, requisition, construction and maintenance of roadways, bridges and drainage facilities at the Department of Public Works. As Louisville’s Assistant Director of Traffic Engineering, he managed the Signs and Markings Division and the Street Operations Division while acting as advisor to the Planning Commission on traffic engineering and planning. He later held a seat on the Planning Commission as Jefferson County Engineer.
As a consultant, he has completed traffic impact studies, designed roadway plans and traffic signal plans, and created traffic flow and circulation plans for many land uses, including churches and schools. Concurrent with his consulting activities, Jim serves as the City Engineer for St. Matthews and Lyndon in Kentucky.
Philip Heid, PE
Structural, Telecom Mgr.
Philip Heid, PE (Principal) graduated from the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 2009. He became a Professional Engineer in Kentucky in 2013. Phil has extensive experience in site design and structural analysis of wireless communications infrastructure including communications towers and building installations. He has experience in structural engineering of industrial and commercial structures including steel, concrete, aluminum and wood design.
Haskins ‘Trey’ Guyton, PE
Site Engineering Mgr.
Haskins (Trey) Guyton, PE, LSIT (Principal) graduated from the University of Louisville in with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Geology. He obtained his Professional Engineer license in Kentucky in 2002. Trey has 20+ years of project management and civil engineering experience designing and supervising both private development and public infrastructure projects. His experience includes new commercial sites, expansion projects along with petrochemical facilities. His portfolio includes site planning and zoning, storm water management, sanitary sewer and utility designs, earthwork calculations, green infrastructure, boundary and topographic surveys, construction management and staking.
